I hoping it was worth the 5 hours of disk checks and diagnosis that it took to work that out. I have to spend some time googling and hunting for the drivers I did what u said and it booted up fine. I noticed an increased boot time on my X38 board since there is an extra window in which all the SATA devices get recognized, but no difference on my X board that doesn’t have a separate AHCI bootup window. I have no idea what the Flash Cahce does of it really do anything under Winxp.

Mind i do this for living and have taken apart and resembled my fair share of laptops, I think it has something to do with the SDD or rather my SSD being slimmer than a normal 9. I had an almost similar problem with SSD in mine m turns out it was plugged in correctly once i figured out what was going and that it wasn’t really plugging when it felt like it was it was PITA to actually get it install right. You can use a program like nLite to help you. The machine was running Windows 7 so I was hoping the the recovery options will solve it all but no joy.

I have the latest updates on everything from Dell m bios A15 etc. The difference between AHCI and ATA mode is the support of hot-swappable drives irrelevant in notebooksnative command queuing NCQand the use of a flash module as a hard drive cache. I was blaming it on video driver corruption from the video fault. Not that I really learnt what they are but I sure learnt what they can cause. I would suggest you either fiddle around with it if you are feeling braveor just use regular ATA mode for your hard drive.
